Fay Twersky, vice president at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, recently launched The Listening Post, a monthly note dedicated to lifting up exceptional ideas, voices, and questions that can help all of us become more effective in our philanthropy. She’ll also share what the team at Hewlett is learning alongside its grantees.

Excerpts from the January edition are below:

Aspiring to excellent work with grantees: Our guide, Seven Habits for Excellent Work with Grantees, includes practical advice and examples. We intend to hold our behavior to these standards of listening, responsiveness, curiosity, and more — and we are making them public so our grantees can hold us to them, as well.

Paying attention to critiques of philanthropy: Aaron Dorfman of the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy says, “It’s time for philanthropic billionaires to share power.”

More on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: The Nonprofit Quarterly’s "Tiny Spark" podcast features BlackHer's The Black Woman’s Guide to Philanthropy, which offers refreshing perspectives from four African American women leaders about their approach to philanthropy and finding value where others may not.
