The Latino Community Foundation is reactivating the NorCal Wildfire Relief Fund to rapidly respond to the Kincade Fire currently raging in Northern Sonoma County. Breaking out in the middle of the night on October 23, 2019—just two years after the devastating 2017 wildfires—this out-of-control wildfire has scorched 21,900 acres and was 5% contained, according to a Friday morning estimate from Cal Fire.
Once again, the fires hit during Wine Country’s harvest season, a critical time for farmworker communities. And, these fires are displacing families, destroying homes and jobs, and opening wounds from the 2017 fires.
LCF is moving quickly to support Latino and immigrant families by investing in Nuestra Comunidad and Corazón Healdsburg. Both of these organizations have been receiving buses of people—many of them immigrant families—displaced by the fires. They have a solid history of working with Latino and immigrant communities—and are trusted source of help and resources.
Nuestra Comunidad: Currently, they are supporting Latino families with emergency translation, resource referrals, and housing assistance.
Corazón Healdsburg: Operating out of the Healdsburg Community Center, currently serving an evacuation center, Corazón is an integral partner to the shelter and support of impacted families.
